The Lukeville border will finally reopen

Lukeville crossing is set to reopen this week

The U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) announced this decision on Tuesday afternoon, confirming that the border crossing will resume normal operations starting at 6 a.m. MST on Thursday.

In their press release, CBP reiterated their commitment to border security, emphasizing that they will continue to prioritize this mission in response to the ever-evolving situation. "We will keep assessing security situations, adjusting our operational plans, and deploying resources to maximize enforcement efforts against noncitizens who do not use lawful pathways or processes, such as scheduling an appointment via CBP One, and those without a legal basis to remain in the United States," stated the agency.

The closure of the Lukeville border dealt a severe blow to the economy of the surrounding towns, halting the flow of trade and tourism that forms the lifeblood of these communities. After grey whales have filled up on massive amounts of krill that come to the surface in the Bering Sea, they migrate to the Sea of Cortez. Sea of Cortez offers an ideal temperature for these whales to give birth to their calves. During this time of year the whales will mate and give birth to their calves only to return north again and start the process from the beginning. Sea of Cortez is wide open and you will feel like is an ocean. This event happens only once at year!

The best time for whale watching on Rocky Point is on February. February is the month when the majority of the whales arrive to Mexican waters.
